If Ace or Paul had the bass line worked out in the demo, it would be faster and easier for them to cut the track, but Gene and his style are all over the place, especially on the first couple of albums (and especially the live ones). Even when Bruce would cut a bass track in the 80's, he said he would" try to play it in Gene's style". Hell, how many times did Ace not even show up for his stuff?
