why do you just have to use a henry?

@Darylc992 I had this at one point. I changed fuel type, and my AGA didn't like it. You may have a build up of sooty mess in the areas shown in the vid, or in your chimney, but is basically poor draw at some point in your system. But seriously, don't use a vacuum, its dangerous, and if using the right fuel shouldn't need doing very often at all.

This brings back memories of our old solid fuel AGA back home. In a way I miss it. But then again I don't miss the mess or the fact that in the summer it made the house to hot to live in since it was always on. Still it beats the all of the toy ranges they sell here in Canada.

does a GAS aga need the same cleaning?

@Robby334 The gas version is entirely different from the solid fuel one in the video. Gas versions should be serviced by a qualified service engineer. Mind you, so should the solid fuel version.

What do you burn in your Aga? Any tips on lighting it gratefully recieved, as I'm about to become the owner of one, thanks.

@sdumat This aga lives on solid fuel 'nuts'. ie no wood, standard coal or other combustibles: only solid fuel such as excell. From your coal merchant, ask what he suggests and try a bag of each suggestion. Some agas like certain products only [mine likes excell] .

@buster477 Been an AGA owner for around a year now! Refurbished and re-built a 1950's model Running mine on Taybrite at first, none of the above ritual was necessary. A different coalman sold me 'Taybrite equivalent' - Stovebrite, and after a short while we were bunged. Several clean-ups and a chimney sweep later, and back on Taybrite, we are burning clean again, no fumes leaking from hotspot. I can't believe you are doing this weekly! There is something soooo wrong with your chimney.

@sdumat The biggest mistake I ever made [regarding the Aga] was to fit a new chimney [aka flue]. The problems that led to frequent cleaning started with the old flue but got worse and worse with the new one. I think my problems relate to the airflow around the building so I'm eager to find a chimney expert - should one exist in the entire world!
