Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria, later Empress Elisabeth of Austria (24 December 1837 10 September 1898) was Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary[3] as spouse of Emperor Francis Joseph I. From an early age, she was called Sisi by family and friends.

While Elisabeth's role and influence on Austro-Hungarian politics should not be overestimated (she is only marginally mentioned in scholarly books on Austrian history), she has undoubtedly become a 20th century icon. She was considered to be a free spirit who abhorred conventional court protocol. She has inspired filmmakers and theatrical producers alike.

  • Lovely video! She is my favorite fellow Bavarians for sure. Found this poem she wrote just yesterday: “I wander lonely in this world,

Delight and life long time averted,

No confidant to share my inner self,

    A matching soul never revealed.”

    (Sisi, The Poetic Diary)

What a shame.... she really deserved to be happy.

  • beautifully made video...she was a real beauty, and one of the most influential women of her time, and she couldn't even raise her children on her own..May she rest in peace!

  • I have a Cousin of two grade Sabine. Together we are Sissi and Ludwig II.

  • She unfortunately was stabbed by an italian arnachist in Switzerland and died shortly after it...Why do some people have to bare it all ?

  • geweldige video meþ prachtige onbekende foto s.

  • Elisabeth hatte echt ein beschissenes leben und hat trotzdem das beste draus gemacht und gekämpft...

sie war eine sehr starke frau, die so viele schicksalsschlaäge einstecken musste...

    echt eine bewundernswerte frau

  • She was splendidly beautiful...breathtaking. :)
