This was pretty much the only FPS released for the Atari ST.

It has been 18 years since I played this game, so please excuse the lacklustre shooting and seemingly nonsensical movement!

Released at the very end of the ST's production life the game was comparable (gameplay wise at least) to Wolfenstein 3D on the PC.

It's best to consider that this is running on something which is only a very slightly tweaked revision (STE as oppose to ST) of a machine originally released in 1985.

Graphically the game was rather bland, using shaded grey walls instead of textures. It did however show that with a bit of smart programming the ST (in this case, the STE) was still quite a useful machine considering it was still only a 68000 Motorola processor running at an almighty 8MHz!

Admittedly though "arcade action" it certainly was not - perhaps it would've been more suited to an RPG game as oppose to a FPS game.

The background sound which lasts until a minute or so through was added by myself - got far too boring otherwise!

  • imagine of wolf3D with no texture O.O

  • @killkenny5000 I used to play Wolfenstein 3D on an old IBM 286 - the performance was comparable to this. Of course that was all texture mapped and much more playable!

Actually, at the time of that comment, I had not played Marathon. I played it less than a week ago, though.

Hmm... was there ever a PC port of this game or "Pathways into darkness"? Perhaps I played it in DOS years ago and forgot

  • @jwaffe That's because the gun is pretty much what you would expect to see if you were playing Marathon - you remember Marathon, right?

It's not actually the gun from Marathon, but it is similarly rendered. There's a couple of other FPS's which were released in obscurity which had a similar gun to this, too. Another one was for the Mac platform in 1993, called 'Pathways into Darkness'. It looked somewhat like this, only better (since it's on a computer).

  • I know I haven't played this game, but the gun looks familiar

  • @lutzdify dont think it stands for anything its just a basic dialect for st

  • What is the plot of this game?
