Citizen Activist/Mother seeks child protection from Toxic Chemicals at Warrick County (IN) Schools

Alcoa, the giant aluminum producer, operates a huge smelter on the Ohio River near Newburgh, IN. According to USEPA's Toxic Release Inventory, the plant emits 4,240,432 lbs. of "point source" toxic air emissions from their single facility. compare that to all the industry in Cool County, IL, or Chicago which emits a relatively small 3,490,072 lbs..

The plant, nearing fifty years old, has been emitting these chemical throughout its history. Those emissions contain all sorts of chemistry including dioxin and other known cancer causing chemicals.

Sherman, who is a part of the regional group, Airaware which seeks to inform people about their quality of the air in the region, seized on a recent report in USA Today which showed that all schools in Warrick County were at high risk due to the massive amount of toxins released by Alcoa and other indutries in the area.
