Combine With Frankenstein ft. Grimace Love produced Frankenstein. (1997)
Frankenstein is an Italian Canadian rapper, producer & remixer from T-Dot, Toronto, Canada.
From his basement somewhere in Canada, this producer made a hand full of gems like "The Pain", "Rain is gone", "Shook Ones Pt 2 (Mobb Deep) remix", "Combine with Frankenstein" & "Sparkin' Intellect".
He disappeared as silent as he appeared on the scene, no one knows his whereabouts.
The last thing known to man, is his "Live from New York" remix project, with 8 tracks, all with the Frankenstein Trademark sound.
If you know Toronto Hip Hop then you've heard of The Mighty Monolith. Out of this distinguished collective comes one of many who have been steadily bringing real Hip Hop to the masses, Grimace Love. To most the term "real" is now considered cliché and often mocked. Personally, I feel this word is and will be forever misinterpreted. In my many years of growing up in this culture I found that the only individuals to actually know the meaning of true masterful "real" Hip Hop are those who have a sense of history and culture of the music.
Grimace Love has been a student and creator of Hip Hop for the past 10 years, Toronto's own Grimace is well known to all heads in the city praised for his lyrical fury ripping microphones in any cipher and tearing down stage with intense live shows. In 1997 Grimace made his first appearance on the track, "Combine with Frankenstein" from, Frankenstein's "UV" EP released on K.O.S./EMI. In 2002 Grimace Love put out his first single "At First Sight" with the B -- side "Obedient School".
Now several cameos and many studio sessions later Grimace Love a.k.a Grimstone celebrates the release of his debut solo album "Perception". Highly anticipated and long awaited this album exemplifies the talent we have in the north. The production on this project represents some of the best I've heard and it has home grown talent that surpasses much of what we are regularly get from the mainstream scene. Grimace Love displays a level of mastery attained by few.
This album has something that a lot of today's Hip Hop acts lack. His originality is apparent with tracks like "Encouragement"as it not only teaches but keeps your head nodding. He has also had a great deal of success with tracks like "Its all Over" featuring Wio K which has been heavily rotated on the New Flow 935 and many other Hip Hop radio stations in the GTA.
The opening track "The Burner" featuring Rishaard a.ka Shamon Harage lets you know from the get go this is no water down shot. The album is full of singles that maintain the true essence of the music. "Zig Zag Man" featuring Dj Dopey is my favorite on the album. The title speaks for itself and so does the track; produced by Lancescape the composition is optimal and competes with the best from the mainstream and underground. Other memorable tracks are "Destiny" and "Pimpin The Riddim" both produced by Black Cat of Irs. The single, "Pimpin The Riddim" is out now and the video can be seen on MuchVibe and Youtube .
My only qualm with the album was the art work that seemed roughly put together which unfortunately took away from the quality of work on the CD. This album comes Highly recommended to all real music lovers who desire a crafted sound. It has the authenticity that originally made us fall in love with the music.
Hip Hop does live in the north, in an undisclosed location in Scarborough BRAAP! What's really real?
