http://athleanx.com Let's face it...you've done this leg exercise before. Probably hundreds of times. Ever wonder why it still seems so hard to build bigger legs regardless of how many reps you've cranked out on this machine?

I'm talking about Leg Extensions...and if you're goal in doing them is to get bigger legs...then it's time to "X" out these knee crushers and start substituting in a closed chain alternative that actually helps to grow your quads quicker.

Knee extensions are the single biggest leg exercise to avoid when you're putting together your workouts. Again, they don't really deliver in the "results" department and worse...they wreak havoc on your knees and can give you a lifetime of aches.

Let celebrity fitness trainer Jeff Cavaliere show you a cutting edge alternative that will have you saying goodbye to leg extensions forever by your next workout.

When you're done watching this, then head to http://athleanx.com to get your hands on a training program that does more than just swap out the dangerous exercises you may be doing for the nondangerous ones...but actually take out the leg exercises that just flat out don't work for building lean muscle and trade them in for the stuff that flat out does!

  • @Jonochallis Time for an education. In the leg extension, loading is applied perpendicular to the long axis of the tibia which creates tremendous shear forces to the patella. If you have any existing chondromalacia at all (which many people do to some degree) then this gets even worse.

The alternative I am providing changes this angle of force to be in line with the tibia creating far less shear and keeping the movement closed chain for more functional carryover.

  • @Jonochallis While never referring to this as a "super duper muscle building movement", if you could, please explain how your favorite leg extension is. I'm just trying to help guys round out their leg programs while saving their knees in the process.

One final lesson. As the old saying goes, it's sometimes better to remain silent and let people THINK you're a fool, than to open your mouth publicly...and PROVE you are.

I and the rest of TEAM ATHLEAN invite you to keep watching and learn!

  • A lot of people criticising without knowing what they're talking about? Listen

  • I think the leg press + squats are perfect if you're trying to build mass and strength. They're easy to do and don't put too much negative strain on your body.

  • @oo0Muppet0oo

I take it your doctor was probably referring to a very light weight. Just to tone the quads. I notice that when I apply a lot of weight on a leg ext it does in face create discomfort. It's an all around weird exercise that I have my doubts about.

  • Any real bodybuilder, natural or juicing knows that leg extensions are a staple in any leg routine. JD always had my respect...until now. I had tendonitis and other major knee problems. Started leg extensions and everything went away. This is just bs to promote his Athlean X.

  • @JDCav24 Jeff for 100th time you have my respect ... You just shuted this guy`s big mouth... i have nothing else to say than you are the best youtube trainer out there... and btw just for the record you actually DID this exercise one more time at your 2012 fitness prediction xD. Anyway Keep up the good work Jeff , you are awesome

  • @oo0Muppet0oo you doctore knows more then this dude . leg extensions are great to strengthen build and tone you legs . your doctor would recomend something that would make your knee worse this guy just wants to sell his program
