So this was the first time I had ever picked up coffee grounds from Starbucks before and I'd have to say it was so easy and worth the trip. I was able to score about 10 pounds from a total of 3 Starbucks stores.

Just a light top dress and I'll water it over the next few days. No need to work it into the soil as it will get mixed in over time. Things are looking good in the garden and now they have a great coffee smell :) I don't even drink coffee hahaha

Ground coffee is high in nitrogen, making it very good mulch for fast-growing vegetables I have been told.

  • how cool is that! I've also heard of people doing this but never have done it myself. I bet it smells great in your yard!!

  • @DesertStateAgent it sure does :) Even more fun to go out there now, lol

  • Jealous of your broccoli and cauliflower! Mine isn't doing well!

  • @kelz132001 thanks and thats to bad about yours. What do you think is the problem with them? I'm wondering what I'm gonna find tomorrow though, the wind has been howling like mad the entire night!

  • Starbucks has this prepackaged at their stores?

  • @sonnysand Well I went to three of them and only one place had it in that silver bag. All others gave it to me in a trash bag. One place even said how glad they were to give me it since not too many people pick it up there...you might find yourself bringing home a 50lb sack one day lol

  • @Planting81 to be honest it doesn't make it that far into the warmer months since we eat it so fast and need room for other things. This is only our second year of winter gardening, but I kinda got a late start on planting them, (nov. 20 someting?), I'm sure it will though if left in long enough; it would most likely bolt and get bitter around April I'd guess

  • @ktrain420247 yeah your so right since I need more nitrogen anyway...seems like all I do is thorw 5 gal. bucket after bucket of fruit/veggie pulp into that pile, lol. You wouldn't believe the great smell all these coffee grounds produce now that it's all over my yard & garden :)
