Sounds like it should be part of a puzzle in Myst.

I was going to try fine guage brass tube, perhaps that's too thermal conducive to give a proper temperature gradient though. I've read pyrex tubes are good. Looking forward to hearing those glissandi...

An explanation of what the hell is going on would be nice though.

Nicely done. Did you custom make the reflective concentrators or was that a off the shelf thing?

this is beautiful! music from the sun. How did you make the instrument? Can you share; I'd like to have a solar music sculpture in my yard too

what did did you use for cooling at the back? did you use a capillary bundle, or are they just open?

mostly open, output depends more on stack material and other factors. various mods in the latest version (in a sort of thermal-organ-meets-pedal-steel-guitar....)

Hi could you mesure howmuch Audio power it can generate? Frequency and amplitude? or dB?
hottermale 2 years ago
Freq range for this set was about 250 to 880 Hz, more or less an octave and a half above middle C. Range can be extended by changing the size of cells in the thermoacoustic "stack.".
Sound intensity was about 83 dB at 1 meter.
