http://abstractpaintings.com Goodridge Artist Talk at Unity Renaissance Church. This artist talk describes the exhibition of encaustic paintings by Carolyn Goodridge. The Unity Renaissance Church invited her to speak at the closing reception.
There were nine paintings on view:
1. Tesla's Age of Aquarius 72"h x 48"w
Vera Reid believed that the keyword for Aquarius is enlightenment. The destiny of humankind in the Age of Aquarius is the revelation of truth and the expansion of consciousness.- Wikipedia. I believe Nikola Tesla's work in electromagnetism embodies the scientific genius that stillserves mankind today.- C. Goodridge
2. Duality 34"h x 28"w
There is the Quantum Mechanics Duality of wave-particle;Philosophy Duality of body and mind;Duality concepts in Modern Mathematics. For me, Duality is the whole being severed into two. That which predetermines the need for Yoga (Union).Without the separation of self we would not yearn, or desire anything. It is our five senses which help separate All That Is into illusory pieces.
3. Maya's Cascade of Kalpas 48"h x 24"w
In Hinduism and Sikhism, Maya is the principal concept which manifests, perpetuates and governs the illusion and dream of duality in the phenomenal Universe.Maya is the name of Buddha's mother. Maya is Greco-Roman Goddess of the Earth.Kalpa is the Sanskrit word meaning aeon (kalpa equaling 4.32 billion years) - Wikipedia
4. Emoto's Morphogenesis 23" diameter
The biological process that causes an organism to develop its shape.Rupert Sheldrake, and English biochemist is known for his theory of morphic resonance. Sheldrake proposes that the process of morphic resonance leads to stable morphic fields, which are significantly easier to tune into. He suggests that this is the means by which simpler organic forms synergetically self-organize into more complex ones, and that this model allows a different explanation for the process of evolution itself, as an addition to Darwin's evolutionary processes of selection and variation. -- WikipediaI believe one's thoughts creates the resonance which creates form. Scientists are now establishing a language that clearly bridges spirituality with quantum physics. Masaru Emoto has proven this in his research with how water crystals change based on words we not only speak, but think. -- C. Goodridge
5. Angel of Freedom, Guardian of Dreams 34"h x 34"w
Angels are there for me at a moment's notice. I call on themConstantly, especially before I go to sleep.I paired the idea of Freedom and Dreamsbecause there are so many times when we need support of ourIdeas, our dreams and goals. When there seems toBe no such encouragement, know that there are Angels watching over you, caring for your Creativity, authenticity and daring dreams.- C. Goodridge
6. The Certainty of Equivocation 20"h x 30"w
When you can't seem to make up your mind, when you first go one way, then another -know that there exists something, someone, the witness, the center, the sourcewhich watches this equivocation. That someone is you! Be certain of that.- C. Goodridge
7. Kinhin (Walking Meditation) 20"h x 36"w
As a part of formal Zen practice, one must walk around the Dharma Room (temple)for about 20 minutes, slowly, quietly and with as much awareness as possible. Each step, take with 100% presence of self. Let the whole world beyour temple.-C. Goodridge
8. I Ching Water 8 ½"h x 6 ½" w
The I Ching, The Book of Changes,is an ancient Chinese Divination system. This is based on the idea that the present moment holds the answers. Yang is the first hexagram of the I Ching...The answer to my question, What is the virtue of Relationship? -C. Goodridge
9. E=tc2 3 ½"h x 3 ½" w
We live in a 3-dimensional world, which physics calls "3-space." But there is also spacetime, or 4-space, or the "4th dimension." This amazing "new" knowledge is that time itself is actually compressed energy and is compressed by exactly the same factor by which matter is considered compressed energy: the speed-of-light-squared! So the famous E=mc2 now has a no-longer-secret sister: E=tc2 (where t is actually "delta-t," or change in time).- The Conservative Voice-Brave New World.
The title of the show is, "Zen of Zero Point, The Age of Enlightenment" The theme represents the artist's combining scientific theory with Eastern philosophy: Zen (a Buddhist religion and philosophy), Zero Point Field theory (of quantum mechanics), Rupert Sheldrake's ideas of morphic resonance and Masaru Emoto's ideas that water records information by changing it's crystalline shape due to the influence of word and thought frequencies.
The artist, Carolyn Goodridge, wants the artwork to illicit dialogue and meaningful conversation in the day to day lives of our mundane existence...not have art just as a silent decoration.
