Sure looks to me like the natural cellulose layer you can peel off lots and lots of kinds of plants if you're careful enough. A quick check under a microscope would clarify it one way or another.

Albertson's manager left a little present on your lettuce.

Traditionally used packaging films like LDPE (low density polyethylene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) and OPP (oriented polypropylene) are not permeable enough for highly respiring products like fresh-cut produces,

Edible films may consist of four basic materials: lipids, resins, polysaccharides and proteins ...

@FireDragonTanya Lyn Werbach is CFO of Saatchi & Saatchi S, a firm which provides sustainability consulting to large corporations. As such, it is puzzling how she is in blissful ignorance of plastics. Yet she has asked me to, 'take my video down.'
Perhaps she should visit the Berry Plastics website. They offer MAP and she could learn more there.

This is not a plastic coating. I buy organic from a small and local organic farmer, and this happens when it gets cold in the winter months.

@SloppyBinds No way. This does not happen with all lettuce - even with the cold. Don't know if it is GMO related or simply something in a 'MAP" coating sprayed on. There are some advertising types and their assorted trolls commenting and issuing their own videos to throw smoke over this important issue. Don't be fooled. Google Berry Plastics. Go to FDA site.
