We'd better figure out how to deal with abundance, because we're going to be dealing with more and more of it. Just hollering that it's all terrible and awful isn't going to change that.

This is ridiculous. Masnick mistakes marginal cost for total cost. Content obviously costs money to produce and the lower the price, the less gets produced.  His idea that musicians should only make money for performance or t-shirts would eliminate all content that can't be produced that way - from electronic multitrack musicians to journalists (don't broadcast from Syria, come to the US for personal shows!) to movies to writers (JK Rowling - just perform! )
