Jefferson Starship performed the song "Light the Sky on Fire" for a musical sequence in The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Star_Wars_Holiday_Special
The origins of Jefferson Starship lie with an earlier band, Jefferson Airplane, one of the most influential groups in the psychedelic rock movement of the 1960s and 1970s. In 1969, they played at the Woodstock Music and Art Festival. Later that year, they were also one of the bands performing at the infamous Altamont Free Concert. The Altamont concert was the subject of the documentary Gimme Shelter, for which George Lucas was a camera operator.
The Star Wars Holiday Special has never been re-telecast or officially released on home video & also
this version of the song has never been released anywhere.

Lyrics:
God, all dignified,if you want to.
What I would really like to know.
Will you light the sky on fire?
Will you light tonight like
you did the night before?
Hey! You could take me higher
than the diamonds in the sky.
Take me, light in the sky and we'll
vanish without a traceand we'll see God then.
Temples and mirrors interest me.
Though all there really is to know.
Will you light the sky on fire?
Will you light the sky on fire again tonight?
You can take me higher than the diamonds in the sky.
Take me, we'll vanish without a trace
and then we'll all see God then.
On the pyramids of the legend.
The great god Kopa Khan came
from the stars and vanished.
And the legends say he will come
back again someday.
Someday...
Will you light the sky on fire?
Will you light tonight like
you did the night before.
You can take me higher
than the diamonds in the sky.
Take me, light in the sky and
we'll vanish without a trace.
And then we'll see god then.
Yes, I would really like to know.
What I've been watching this for.
Yes, I would really like to know.
Will you light the sky on fire?
Will you light the sky like
you did the night before?
You could take me higher than
the diamonds in the sky.
Take me, we'llvanish without a trace.
And we'll all see God then.
Vanish without a trace.
Vanish without a trace.
Come on, come on,
come on, come on, come on,
let's vanish without a trace.
Come on, come on, come on,
come on, come on,
we'll vanish without a trace.

  • I like his Dildo.

  • I heard this was so critically reviled that after it aired, the creator had his knighthood revoked.

  • DON'T tell me that 0:38 wasn't an intentional jab by Jefferson Starship, at being included in this abomination!!!

  • How could they ever think Mickey Thomas could sing in the same band Marty Balin did!! Marty's the best!!

  • Another interesting thing about this is the fact that this was the only time they ever appeared on television with Marty Balin. However, what really was important is that this was the first song the band recorded without Grace Slick, who had departed the band just a few months earlier and it was the last song that Marty would record with any form of Jefferson Starship/Airplane until 1989. It was soon after this that Marty left and Mickey Thomas would replace him.

  • The strange part about this movie is that it's made up of some (notice just some) interesting parts. They just get lost in the shuffle of stupid things and none of them really have anything to do with each other.

  • This is actually a pretty decent song but in such a god-awful horrific movie and yes the microphone does look a bit phallic.

  • "We built this city on rocks and mole-people."
