@Hako2004 and she thrilled everyone when she was even 61 singing one of the most demanding roles Gilda with Pavarotti and Nucci, the quartet, trio and finale are present on youtube ... Dame Sutherland is a real legend

@JAYDEEE75 The first time I worked with Joan and Ricky was for I Puritani at the Met, then a revival of Don Giovanni. Later, outside the Met, I worked on both productions of Esclarmonde (I don't share Ricky's enthusiasm for this opera), Lakme at the opening of the Sydney Opera House, a Norma and I helped her prepare for I Masnadieri. There might have been a couple of other productions that I dont remember. Also many social nights, all of us relaxing and enjoying each other.

@Snowydog123 You are indeed very lucky to have collaborated with the late Dame Joan Sutherland. What works exactly did you do with them?

Awesome voice!! She will be greatly missed!

Now, really, being able to sing like that at 57 !!!!
Very few in the World can do or have already done so !!!!
There's no voice like Joan !

@doddsalfa Well, if you mean Callas couldn't begin to sing as well as Sutherland did at the end, you're correct indeed.
What Ms.Sutherland lost, most singers never had.

Sutherland should be judged by what she does....not against the glowing past performances of her youth. No soprano sings at that level these days, and yet they have careers. Even at 57 and on a mediocre night, she sings circles around many sopranos. It is foolish to expect a great artist to disappear simply because they are no longer in their prime. They don't have to be in their prime to thrill an audience, or fill a theatre. They owe something to their fans, and carry on for them.
