I heard a host of a classical radio program say that Bach did not care for the orchestral suite form but it was very popular at the time so he felt compelled to write them. I'm glad he was so compelled.

@tristan01101 when you play music, you can eventually gauge the tempo by listening to how far apart the notes are. For instance, I think this song has two beats every second. I have no idea how to say that in the correct terms, but you can use it.

@angryjalapeno & as for the tempo- was there a way to measure that?

@tristan01101, books about violin playing were written, books about keyboard playing were written, music critics existed back then, some instruments from Bach's time have survived, pipe organs from Bach's time still exist from which we know there was a preference for a bright sound.

@angryjalapeno Who exactly decides what qualifies as proper 'Baroque' style playing? As far as I know, there is no one alive from that time. That's one thing I've never quite understood.
