We are at the start of the Big Shift away from the 20th century defined by hyper-consumption towards the 21st century, an age of Collaborative Consumption. But just how LARGE and FAR-REACHING is this groundswell? www.collaborativeconsumption.com
While I agree with the message in the video, there are two reasons it also worries me that BIG business are going down a similar path. Leasing or renting out goods is being pushed quite a bit in the retail industry because (1) as a consumer you end up paying a lot more for the product and (2) the product can be built with a shorter lifespan (i.e. cheaper) in order to increase revenue for the company building it. And since the consumer does not own it, he/she can't lend it to anyone afterward.
