I think the HST is a big mistake, the BC Liberals should have told the voters about this idea they had been bouncing around before the election last year and there is a lot of opposition to the HST..A LOT!!!

I will be signing the petition as soon as I see one and I hope you will think about signing also

If you aren't sure how much this could cost you think about this, are you planning to buy a house in the future, if the answer is yes then you will have to pay HST on it, there is a formula that will show how much more it will cost but I can't find it right now.

Also, you MUST be a registered voter in BC for your signature to count so get registered before you sign.
Thank-you for your time

  • jesus so how much in taxes on somethings will you be paying, percent wise?

  • @tehmedic It will be a total of 12% sales tax on pretty much everything as of July 1st, right now many items or services are only taxed 5% and some are already taxed 5% GST +7% PST, this may sound like nothing is changing but that's not the case because many goods & services are PST exempt. I saw a figure a while ago that said a new house $400,000 will cost an additional $15 - $20,000 for tax, it was in my newspaper, Ive been looking for the actual formula but haven't found it yet.

  • meh ever since they started taxing books and tampons I gave up on reasonable taxes

  • @nelliediddle they're taxing books? ;-)

  • That's pretty crazy. I can only really speak as a hairstylist... here we do not and have never taxed those services. Products we sell, of course are taxed, but not our services.

  • @tattooskin72 It used to be that way here also until Mulroney (BOOOOO) brought in the GST to help out his corporate buddies

  • stephen harper is a fucking jerk off. we already bailed out big buisness, it's time to give the people a break and give B.C. a raise. families and single people working on $8 an hour paycheck can't afford more taxes. i hope there is a referendum, fuck gordon cambell! ignatif can suck a cock too, but he was right about something; canada isnt what it used to be, but it is for sure not the people that have changed it.

  • @AbdultheImpailler Ah, I see what you're saying. I guess I have the luxury of being a bit apathetic about this whole thing since I don't make anywhere near 30K a year so I'll be getting it all back in the end.

I agree with you tho, if the gov't just tightened up their finances a little I bet we wouldn't need to consider this kind of thing. Do they really need to give themselves raises every time they hold session? And maybe making them work more than 40 some odd days a year would help. Jerks.

  • @AbdultheImpailler I live in saskatchewan so we already pay i think its 12% for gst and pst, i was under the impression you were meaning 7% ontop of that so a total of 19%, but although we we do already pay teh 12% but i swear we dont pay for a few of those things that you mentioned, but I obvisuly need to pay more attention to things such as these.

  • @Abdul I'm on board with doctors and teachers staying here too, I think it's time that everyone involved at any level of govt, whether they are politicians, managers or workers to do some belt tightening, I don't care what private industry is willing to pay people, these people are being paid tax dollars, there should be a ceiling.

If someone is spending beyond their means, it's not up to the employer to bail them out and give them a big raise, management or worker...I could go on for hours

  • @ahyane Unfortunately it's not that simple, in BC it means that many things that were PST exempt before will no longer be because in the infinite wisdom of the taxman GST is charged on many kids items like bikes and skates, things that encourage kids to be active and healthy.

Now that gst is charged on those items, to make it simple HST will be charged on them, they won't be PST exempt anymore.

The HST tax credit is a joke, I think the family ceiling is $30K???

  • @ahyane You and me both brother, you punch the left side & I'll punch the right side, then we can listen to him gurggle
