Qormi, Malta's Baking Village

The third edition of A Night in Casal Fornaro in Qormi, Malta, was held on 17th October 2009. The event is designed to promote Qormi's culture, traditions and folklore, including the town's traditional bakeries and its long standing association with the Maltese loaf.

The event was organised by The Kummissjoni Żgħażagħ Basjaniżi, a group of young people from the Qormi.

The attractions of A Night in Casal Fornaro extended way beyond Qormi and its unique cultural and social history. The participants included farmers, singers and folkloristic groups from all over Malta and Gozo. There were also a number of exhibitions portraying art, photographs and traditional crafts such as the bakers trade and the Maltese loaf, as well as the construction of different carts and an exhibition of various statues made by the Gozitan, Michael Camilleri Cauchi.

Unfortunately the evening was compromised by the weather and some of the events had to be cancelled. This video only shows some of its activities.

A big prosit to all those involved in the preparation of this event.

  • Yes, it was unfortunate because they had so many events prepared and they worked very hard. It's a shame.

Hope you watched our Zejtun Olive Fest Youtube video.

The last piece of music is "Iz-Zifna".
