  • What I was told happened was the company that owned Hollywood Squares at that time was Orion, was struggling financially. Although the show was a huge success, they didn't want to take the chance that it might go down in the ratings and become less valuable. So they "retired" it while it was on top, listing it as a $40 million asset, which looked good on the books.

  • @shadoestevens Sadly, in 1998 Orion went belly-up, and the entire catalog, including your version & Peter Marshall's versions of HS, wound up in the archives of one MGM.

BTW, apropos of nothing, but one of the key elements of this version of Hollywood Squares, without a doubt, was Stormy Sachs. From the theme, to all the musical cues, he brought an energy to the show that was unparalleled. And to hear him on the Mighty Wurlitzer, coupled with 6000 people screaming their heads off, just... wow.

  • @allnewtpir

I totally agree about Stormy. He's very talented and created incredible musical wraparounds that gave the show a lot of color and excitement. But the key was Rick Rosner, the producer. What a brilliant guy...someone should bring the show back and hire Rick to do it all again. He really understands how to make it compelling, engaging, and funny.

  • I appreciate your appreciation and grovel at your feet.

  • It's really silly play on words pretending to be humor...sax and violins...sex and violence...Dr. Ruth...sex...get it ? Maybe it'll come to you later and you'll laugh for no reason...or it could be too stupid to trigger any kind of response, in which case I apologize. I am very ashamed.

  • Hollywood Squares would make a return visit to New York in 2000, this time with Tom Bergeron as host, Whoopi Goldberg in the center square, and (until 2002) Shadoe still announcer.

  • @erikdraven1731 I agree; having to pick a key that you hoped not only started the car you picked; but one that started a car at all!

  • 1:10 JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHN DAVIDSON!!!!!

  • Best theme, best host, best announcer... if they hadn't f***ed around with the endgame for season three, this show would've lasted a lot longer than three years!

  • @radiotrucker1983 He did!
