Your 3* star urgent is none other than the infamous wyvern out of the Monster Hunter series, Rathalos.

Yes, the very same you encountered when first doing your "Raid the Wyvern's Nest!".

He's not as hard as he seems, once you get the hang of fighting him you can down him pretty quickly. For this video, I'll be using several items to make the quest go by faster.

3x Flash Bombs, 1x Pitfall Trap, and 1x Tainted Meat, I did bring some Smoke Bombs with me, but I never did use them. =/

How to make Pitfall Trap:

Spiderweb + Ivy = Net

Net + Trap Tool = Pitfall Trap

Like my new gear? Names huh? Here you go:

Weapon: Poison Battleaxe:
Attack: 238
Sharpness: Nice green
POAtrrib: 260
(made by improving Hunter's Knife upwards, requires Poison Sacs)

Armor:

Ioprey Helm
Ioprey Mail
Ioprey Vambraces
Ioprey Tasset
Ioprey Greaves

Skills:

Poison Negated

As soon as the quest starts, grab whatever your supplies, (see, that's why I brought 3x Flash Bombs, because 2x of them are supplied within the box, keep this in mind for future Wyvern hunting quests) and make your way to area 3 for a nice cutscene of the Rathalos downing some poor innocent monster.

After the cutscene, Rathalos will be facing the opposite direction from you and will start walking away.
This is your chance to Paintball him, after you do so he'll more than likely begin looking around wondering what in the world just hit him, this your chance to begin attacking at his legs.

Unlike Yian Kut-Ku/Gypceros/Cephadrome, Rathalos can swing his tail in any direction as it pleases, usually the direction your closer to of course. (the AI is a bit more advanced)

He is still a threat even though he's been flashed, he can still bite, and tail swing. So I suggest using some caution when attacking the head or attacking the legs, if you're aiming for the legs it's best to stay in the center, if aiming for the head time your attacks so you'll have enough time to roll out of an upcoming bite attack's range.

Usually after area 3, he'll fly away to area 10 if not 9. It's a good idea to always Paintball Rathalos, as he likes to wander around quite a bit.

When you enter the area, you'll still have the little Wyvern eye icon to the left, meaning he clearly sees you and knows your in the area, it'll reset as he lands, so If you bought any kind of meat (Tainted, Sleep, Poison) feel free to place it somewhat close to the middle. Then go hide in the bushes unless you prepared yourself with some Smoke Bombs. (:

Keep in mind, if Rathalos spots you, the whole "meat trick" won't work. It's like that for all monsters, at least in this game it is..

Also, in this area if you or Rathalos hit any of the Felynes, they'll begin attacking you, so keep that in mind. They can be annoying, also throwing a Flash Bomb and it affecting one of them will cause them to attack you as well, so if you're going to use a Flash Bomb in this area, make sure you don't miss.

Usually when he leaves this area he'll go to 4, and then to 9, but in this case.. he went straight to 5 to heal.(It's been awhile since I've fought a Rathalos and learned which way he flies, so bare with me folks, sorry) Yes Rathalos sleeps in area 5 like Yian Kut-Ku, so don't let him stay in there too long.

Sometimes it's a good idea to wait outside the entrance of area 5 until the Rathalos falls asleep, that way when you enter you can have a chance to set up bombs and what not. Although there is Velociprey in area 5 as well, and they almost always usually hit Rathalos while trying to hit you, causing him to wake up. So if you're feeling lucky, feel free to try it, if not, then rush on in there and take him out.

It's always a good idea to clear the prey out before you finish off the main monster, that way they won't interrupt you as you carve of fight the monster.

After you complete this quest, the Village Elder will allow you to pull the Hero's Sword from in back of your house.
