Since the begining of time, the Crystal-Spider, the goddess who created the Web that binds all worlds, and the Black Lily, the darkness born from mortal hearts, have waged war. Now, each has created five children to decide the outcome for them. From the Spider, the Stars; from the Lily, the Flames. But the firstborn, Siavahda and Gabriel, must race to find their soul-kin before the other does so first.

Siavahda is winning the race but not the war. With Vladishka, her sister, she flees to Earth after Gabriel slays her soulmate Nakir. But Nakir is not lost - merely buried deep within the mind of a human boy, Alex, who is unconcious of Nakir's existence - and when Siavahda discovers this she will do anything to get him back...even masquerade as a human and win Alex's heart.

When Vladishka's lover is kidnapped by Gabriel, her power all but destroys Earth. So begins Alex's consciption into the eternal war. Both sides want him for the soul he carries within him. Siavahda is comatose, poisoned by Gabriel, her life tied up with Alex's. Kheylan, Second-Heir to the vampiric throne, has a lover's interest in the human. Vladishka names herself his protector, but without Siavahda the Web is lost and there are many willing to kill Alex to save her and restore Nakir.

The Web is dying. Only by coming together to create starfire can the Stars and Flames save it - but born to destroy, can they ever realise the truth in time?
