Part 1:

There's a ton of dictionaries on Japanese out there. Many of them are virtually the same in terms of content and skill level. Here are some of the dictionaries I commonly use when studying Japanese and why I find them to be worth looking at.

1. Kodansha's Communicative English-Japanese Dictionary by Peter Sharpe

2. The Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary by Jack Halpern

  • very pointless

  • @MarcoBocoure Were you expecting a Ph.D. dissertation or something? Sorry to disappoint.

  • great vid! Do you know of a maybe thinner/smaller dictionary that I could keep in my purse?! I know there was one that was a pink colour but I cant remember what it's called. Thanks!

  • The pink one is probably "Making out in Japanese", which is very colloquial. It's good, but I would caution using it until you've mastered the basics. For portability, you really can't beat an electronic dictionary (see part 2).

  • Thanks that was helpful. =o

I've been thinking of buying the Kodansha's Communicative dictionary for a while now. =P

I think I should probably get it now.
