The Most Incredible Volcano Video ever shot ! Geoff Mackley, Bradley Ambrose, Nathan Berg, after an epic struggle with the weather for 35 days, we became the first people ever to get this close to Marum Volcano's famed lava lake on Ambrym Island, Vanuatu. Coming within 30 metres of the lava lake down a watercourse, it was possible to stand the heat for only 6 seconds. With Fire Brigade breathing apparatus and heat proof proximity suit it was possible to stand on the very edge and view the incredible show for over 40 minutes.

I would think that if you were a scientific expert you would know how to spell VOLCANO !

Actually he's from Romania where the spelling of 'volcano' is 'vulcan', where he got his misspelling. The English word 'volcano' also happened to evolve from 'vulcan'. As someone who claims to be as high and mighty as you, I wouldn't be so ethnocentric.

I look forward to you joining us next week so you can be proved wrong. When I filmed that I was 3/4 of the way down a 1200ft crater parked up on a ledge. I also don't see how 9:45 shows the real distance. It was filmed with a wide angle, and a wide angle changes perception by getting more into the shot than what your eyes see, so you will have the impression that objects are further away than what they are.

to jomatheone, We are heading back there in a weeks time, your welcome to join us and bring a tape measure ! The "thingy" is a fire department breathing apparatus, designed to withstand HEAT and the reason nothing exploded or melted is that all that heat was rising pretty much straight up, so by being just back from the edge the heat was bearable. The distance to the lave was about 30 metres based on the nearly 3 seconds it took rocks we threw to hit !

im no volcano expert...i just an lame mathematical engineer with also bad grammar......the fact is... THAT'S MORE THAN 100 mts away from the lava....a) Your oxygen canister is made of aluminum or some metal....the lava is 1000 degrees Celsius...and the AIR around it (some 30mts) would make that thingy explode in seconds. b) He's just using camera angles at the top of the crater...look at 9:45 to see the real distance. c) Been 100mts away from lava is awesome enough...you don't have to lie.
