INTERNATIONAL MALAYALAM FILM AWARDS 2011 ,In the breathtaking surrounds of the Al Badia Golf Club at Dubai Festival City last night an event unfolded that will no doubt change the face of the UAE's Film & Cinema industry forever.

Malayalam cinema aficionados filled the elaborately designed venue at the Al Badia Golf Club, to celebrate the first ever "International Malayalam Film Awards", as a part of 40th national day celebrations in UAE,

with the support from Dubai Tourism Department , Dubai Events & Promotions and Dubai Studio City.

If there was ever any doubt of the "Might" of the Malayalam film industry and it's profound following in the UAE, December 2nd those doubts would have been quashed dramatically as they rolled out the Red Carpet to many of the biggest names in the UAE and blazed a path towards what the local Malayalam film industry has

for so long been missing. As Sathar Al Karan, the man behind the venture put it, "We're doing our best to showcase the Malayalam film industry on a new and International level".

The event is a step towards bringing the Malayalam film industry out from under the vice-like grip that Hollywood and Bollywood have in the region and could over time contribute towards building a greater acceptance and understanding of Malayalam language films among film and cinema audiences in the Middle East.

Rulers and Dignitary's from across the UAE, led by His Highness Shaikh Sultan Khalid Al Qassimi showed their support for the Industry and the profound contribution that it has had on the UAE over the years.

His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Khaled Al Hamed was the chief guest,Dubai tourism Director Mr Majid Al Marri launched the logo of IMFA . Ms Shaikha Al Mutawwa , Director DTCM , Mr Mane Al Majid , Mr Abdul Aziz Al Shaikh,Emirati Movie Director Ms Hafza Al Mutawwa , Eminent Indian Director Siddique ( Body Guard Fame ) , Director Roshan Andrews , Director Blessy and tycoons from business industry gathered the ceremony.

Mahi Golchin-Depala of Phars Film, Distributors for South Indian Language Titles across the Middle East described the event as "A welcome and much needed addition to the cinematic landscape of the UAE"
