Correspondent Julie Caine profiles Japanese country and western singer Toshio Hirano. Audio slideshow produced by Julie Caine. Photographs by Lenny Gonzalez.
I met him several months ago at the Rite Spot Cafe in S.F. He was very gracious, played a wonderful set, and rendered a very honest, authentic, and talented performance in dedication to the music of Jimmy Rogers. I asked whether he had plans to release a CD and he said that he was quite content to just perform JR tunes.
Go see Toshiro Hirano. You will have a good time.
If Mr. Hirano is truly your dad, you should be proud!
Music, beyond language- beyond you and beyond me.
