I created the following movie to stimulate students interest in what we will be studying over the course of the year. We focus on 19th century American and 20th Century Colorado history.

I tried to incorporate my philosophy of history and why it is important to all students along with primary source images that help them see what they will learn.

As they watch, I encourage my students to find an image that speaks to them personally and write questions to begin the inquiry process.

After their interest is sparked, they can move into primary sources that are harder to access like historical documents and maps, with more motivation.

As a Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Mentor, I look forward to exploring inquiry learning and primary sources. I will use that knowledge to help bring other teachers into the network through online classes and presentations in my district and at meetings or conferences across the country.

I would approach this role as a cheerleader to help other teachers understand how to access and use the valuable resources the Library of Congress has for teachers.

I am uniquely qualified for advising the Library on the creation of its teacher network since I have presented at many conferences, mentored new teachers, and facilitated staff development in my school, district and state. I was on our new state standards writing committee, which gives me the ability to help teachers incorporate Library resources into the planning of their new curriculum. I am eager to learn and share my knowledge with others!
