Bei der Hochspannungs-Gleichstromübertragung
(HGÜ) hingegen kann
mehr Leistung pro Leitung transportiert
werden, weshalb die HGÜ über
große Entfernungen wesentlich
effizienter und kostengünstiger ist.
Außerdem sind die Verluste bei der
Gleichstromübertragung wesentlich
geringer. Moderne HGÜ-Systeme sind
in der Lage, bis zu 3.000 MW über
Entfernungen von 1.000--1.500 km zu
übertragen.

  • Are these huge DC Voltages converted to AC (let us say 230 V at 50 Hz) at the end of the line and/or how is that done?

  • @radiofun232 Yes, at the end of the line the DC voltage will be converted to AC. The huge AC power will be fed into the regional AC transmission and distribution grid and distributed over several steps (e.g. 800/420/220/60/10/0.4 kV) to the different consumers like cities, villages, industries, buildings and finally also households with 230 V 50 Hz sockets.

  • The engineering demonstrated is fascinating, but one of anything can fail in lots of ways.
