I had a chance to sit down privately with Stokely Carmichael, Kwame Toure, in the early eighties. I share my recollections of that afternoon here along with the lessons that Stokely imparted that day.
We questioned him at length about Lowndes County, Alabama, his relationship with Dr. KIng, his thoughts on Malcolm X, The Black Panthers, and his views on revolution and violence. We really pressed him on the question of violence.
Stokely saw himself as a revolutionary and said that when the consciousness of the people is high, but their material situation is low, conditions are then ripe for revolution. In order to raise the consciousness of the people he recommended authentic education as the solution.
He had two simple calls to action: 1. Educate yourself 2. Get organized.
His immediate mission at the time that I sat with him was to build the party -- The All African People's Revolutionary Party.
Make sure to watch the one minute correction video after this.

@demitreushenry Thanks for the kind words. BTW: I remembered what Stokely called his brand of socialism: He called it scientific socialism.
