I've always been amazed at his operatic talent. Beverly Sills once called him the greatest tenor she had ever heard. He died way too young and doesn't get the recognition today that he deserves. But for me, he's at his best when he goes back to his roots as a Cantor - spectacular.

@HandwhistlerBen My pleasure, my friend!

No matter how many times I listen to this rendition of our most sacred music, it still takes me to a place in the heavens. I am totally focused on every tone and word and the rest of the world disappears. I am totally at Peace, and able to release many of my shortcomings of this past year. Richard Tuckers voice is as great as any Cantor who ever lived, and still shared another aspect as one of the greatest opera tenors. Thank you for posting.

@suzannemasks Thank YOU for your comment!
I can't believe what a thrill it is to hear Richard Tucker singing Kol Nidre... Believe it or not he was the cantor at my Bar Mitzvah at the temple on The Grand Concourse & 169th Street.(in the Bronx). At that time we knew he would be one of the greatest tenors in opera.

Tucker had a fantastic voice. He was incredible singing opera (although he unfortunately isn't as well-remembered now as he should be) but he really hits it out of the park with this rendering of Kol Nidre. Electrifying. Thank you for posting this.

Tucker's voice was as greatest of any Cantor I ever heard and I heard him sing the service several times as he did every year in Chicago over many years. People wept openly, men and women, swept away by the emotion and power of his voice. His live rendition was even more emotional then the recording. At the point where he walks among the people carrying the Torah and singing, he passed where we all stood up and was just barely two feet from me, the sound was really amazing. Thank you.

@SHICOFF1 My pleasure, to be sure. He was among the all-time greats, no doubt about it.
