I was requested to do a Robert Burns poem in my accent by a friend, so I thought there would be no better time than to put this up tonight as it's Robert Burns birthday. I'm a very big fan of Robert Burns, I have complete admiration for who he was, what he stood for, his belief in equality and against war, a belief of unity and fearless to speak his mind. Sometimes I wish he was alive today, with his image in tact to see him run the US government into the ground for their corruption. In saying that, many of his poems could relate to who they are today.

I would say it's what influences me being a Scottish patriot and nationalist, much of his work influenced me to realise, there is more to life than your own. I'm not a unionist, but able to see things from an open mind, and I suppose much of that is down to the inspiration of Robert Burns. He was a patriotic Scot, but was capable of speaking highly even of places in England, such as his poem about the bonnie banks of Devon.

There are many songs and poems of his that I have great admiration for, his words are genius and there's so much to respect from his work, one of which is 'Is There For Honest Poverty.' Another song, 'Ye Jacobites by Name,' as quoted, "to whet the assassin's knife wi' bloody war." You can tell he was very much against war and to me, he's an example that swords taken to a battle field may win wars, but words spoken are often stronger than a sword in battle. There are many poems I have great admiration for.

One I do recommend is a poem on the American Revolutionary War, which I suggest you check out, it's called 'When Guildford Good, A Pilot Stood.' He sided with the America on the war, and you can read about that in your own research. To me, he deserves to be listed the Greatest Scot to have lived, and is the greatest bard that has ever lived, I think that sums up just how important he is, and who he was. To be listed above William Shakespeare as the greatest bard, and to be listed above the likes of William Wallace or Robert the Bruce, will speak for itself. It's not until you read into his work, see what he stood for, you can then truly appreciate who he was.

  • "Let Bourbon exult in his gay gilded lilies,

And England triumphant display her proud rose!

A fairer than either adorns the green valleys,

Where Devon, sweet Devon, meandering flows."

  • @MrScottishJamie That winding stream I love so dear?

    Must wayward Fortune's adverse hand

For ever - ever keep me here?

notice how nationalists only choose to see what they want to see?

  • @MrScottishJamie The Thames flows proudly to the sea,

    Where royal cities stately stand;

But sweeter flows the Nith to me,

Where Cummins ance had high command.

When shall I see that honor'd land,

  • @MrScottishJamie this is the same bard you speak of, that wrote songs like 'The Thames Flows proudly to the Sea or The Banks O Devon.

Don't see Nationalists picking that up though, do you?

  • @MrScottishJamie Parcel of Rogues in a Nation

    * nothing to do with Unionists

    * against throwing away Scottish Independence of that time period and

  • @MrScottishJamie Listen to it? I've listened to his music for over 3 years straight. Notice how I mentioned he's a Scottish Nationalist. But what certain closed minded Scottish Nationalists miss out..

  • @ScottMcK9 listen to rogues of our nation u will notice the tone which robert burns gave to unionists

  • @MrScottishJamie People don't understand, why there were Cash4Gold adverts, why Gold and Silver is being bought like mad, because you ARE heading for a Great Depression. That's why I said, for there to be winners, there has to be losers. You are about to see an enormous gap between the rich and poor. This is no laughing matter, this is the truth.

I laugh at anyone, who tries to claim that this is a recession. For the simple reason, our currency is going down the toilet.

  • @MrScottishJamie Jamie, you are not in a recession, your currency is not picking up, you are heading, for a Great Depression that is far worse than the early 1900's, and this is the same Scotland, that wants to be free during that time period. And no, our currency is not making a come back, there is not even an if, but or a maybe. The reality is Jamie, you aren't even quarter the way through what the news funny enough, tried to claim, was rock bottom. wait till you see the riots then.

  • @MrScottishJamie You are aware Jamie, Robert Burns was born during a time Scotland just gave it's independence up. You can't compare today, where we live in a world where we've been in a Union for 300 years, to Robert Burns who lived during a time period that was very different.

Did Robert Burns face the Great Depression of the early 1900's? Of course not, was the masonic lodge the same thing he was a member of back then, as it is today? No.
