I've got a Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter with an HDMI cord but the computer screen does not show up on the flat screen. When I go into Display under System Preferences, I do not have all of the options that you show.

@SamKlug2 go system preferences->displays->arrange­ment and either click mirror displays or drag the grey bar onto the other display in that same menu

when i plugged in my adapter cord to my Mac, the little icon in the top bar did not appear and my screen only shows the background screen saver on the tv. no icons appeared either
