Ironically Bill Owen the actor who played Compo was laid to rest in the churchyard used in the filming of these opening scenes. The church is St John The Evangalist on Upperthong Lane, Upperthong, Holfirth. Although the opening scene with Compo 'hanging behind' was actually filmed on the access path leading from Binns Lane with the church gates in the background.
