Excellent. Not overdone, and just enough to be outstanding. Does anyone know what tuning was used on the guitar?

How does the mandolin player create that choppy sound while he is playing chords?

By strumming the strings while they're muted by relaxing the fretting fingers:-)

This was perfection at it's best. The quality and clarity from all three instruments was unmistakably done by true artisans of an art we don't get to hear much of on mainstream radio or any entertainment venue as far as that goes. I'll be playing along with my guitar many times in hopes I can learn the small details that makes this great. Thank you so much guys and to the person uploading for the rest of us to enjoy.

    Google "Bluegrass Chop".

It starts with using "Chop chords", aka "Closed" or "Full" chords. You finger all four courses of strings on all chords.

On the 1 & 3 beats, hold the strings against the frets to let the chord ring. (or don't strum).

On the 2 & 4, ease off pressure just enough so it doesn't ring, but hints at it's tone.

Watch his left hand to see it done..

There is also a wrist action you need.

Put some snap in the wrist.

It should feel like shaking out a wet dishrag.

Pretty sure that it is drop D tuning (the low "E" is dropped a step to a "D")

I'm researching what's the best music to listen to while studying. I have this big test I have to pass in order to get my license in counseling. Sounds good to me. I think I'll try it!

This is the most beautiful arrangement of this tune, that I have heard.. Oh to be able to do this...Are there any music scores, for sheet, or tab for this ? probably not...just talented individuals how improvise on the spot... That little bass player, keeps it all together...PB
