Here's just a home video of my little bro and I showing how to tear down a Dodge Cummins to repair the KDP damage on my 24V.

  • So if I understand you correctly, if a person has an 01 24v this syndrome is rare. Would you recommend having the kit installed anyway? I love my truck and am very good with maintenace and would like to prevent this. Is it worth the investment? Great vid btw thanks for posting.

  • @Jeepgirlcj7 Yes. I highly recomend getting the pin tabbed. A quick search on google should give you all the information you need.

  • i'm confused. i own an 02' 24v & i have tried to do research on all the common problems that happen with these engines & i've never seen this problem listed with the 2nd gen 24v engines? how common is this to happen?

  • @mstep3 After '00 they are rare. I would atleast tab it. For insurance sake...

  • you know, if you drive a cummins right, you'll most likely not have this proplem.

so, stop driving them like race cars, and thay'll most likely last forever.

  • @petterdiesel The Killer Dowel Pin is a design and manufacturing flaw. No matter how you drive, you are at risk of destroying your motor unless you tab the KDP. This video merely shows how to replace the front aluminum gear housing. Damage that was a direct cause of the KDP falling out. My KDP fell out when I was idling up a hill in reverse. The truck randomly shut off, and when I tried to restart it, it felt like it hydrolocked, then it did start, but with oil pouring out of the motor.

  • Its amazing how all this could have been avoided if Cummins just decided to crimp the end of the dowel pin hole from the factory from the start.

  • Thank you and I did have it done. Good thing too because my seal was leaking so all and all it was a good investment. :)

  • @XxhpodxStuckxX All 12v's had this problem, most 24v's do, no common rail motors have this problem.

  • @neloS69 repairing the damage caused by a KDP that had fallen out. Pretty much, replace front gear housing.
