@UnitedCommunists Yes, I do think people living in the West were "any good", and we had democracy and justice before the law. In East Germany, nothing like that existed. You just had to do as you were told and be what you were supposed to be. I know a person who literally walked on tank mines across a stream near Magdeburg in the east to get over to the west. At that time in the early 1950s, the so-called iron curtain was not altogether air-tight yet. It was much different some years later.

@UnitedCommunists The DDR was a corrupt anti-human system of repression with a puppet army, die Nationalen Volksarmee, all in the service of a small elite within the political Communist caste. Happily, even the Russians grew tired of it and finally realized it would never work, and pulled the plug of the Soviet union, because it was not viable and simply evil.

@UnitedCommunists That's a ludicrous distortion of reality. Margaret Thatcher was a hardcore, ruthless conservative, but certainly not a fascist. West Germany was not run by former Nazis! They were just Germans, and that's certainly no crime. The DDR, East Germany, was a totalitarian dictatorship that I hope nobody, anywhere, wants to come back into existence, ever. Hey, it's been 22 years since 1989. When will you wake up from Erich Honecker's Soviet-imposed nightmare and see the light?

And you think people living in the West were any good?

I know for a fact that in the UK under the fascist Margaret Thatcher people were living in squalor.

Many American's were homeless.

And the FRG was being run by former Nazi sympathisers. I know one of the FRG leaders made Nazi propaganda during WWII.

In the DDR people of course were not living in mansion but they had dignity and a good standard of living. People in the DDR were united in brotherhood and that is beautiful.

Utterly horrible. There was nothing at all positive about East Germany, only misery and political and physical repression of free-thinking groups and individual people. Nothing good came of it, as it was actually WORSE than a Soviet puppet state.

Ich bin in Gera, Thueringen geboren, ich hab´ die DDR nicht mehr miterlebt, aber aus den erzaehlungen meiner Familie wahr sie nicht schlecht und ich finde die DDR wahr eine bessere Sportnation also nicht gerade Fußball xD

Aber die NVA ist eindeutig besser und vorallem deutscher als die Bundeswehr!

Man haette einfach nur aus zweien deutsche staaten einen mach´n muessen sprich aus zwei gruende einen neuen das z.B die FDJ und NVA geblieben + BRD Regierung und reisefreiheit die BRD hymne usw!
