The Track "Büyülü Dans" (Turkish for "The Enchanted Dance") is taken from the great Album "Burhan Öcal - Yeni Rüya" ("New Dream", 2005). Listen and enjoy it.
Burhan Öcal is a world leading master percussionist, multi-instrumentalist and composer from Turkey who is a specialist in bringing new perspectives to traditional genres.
His album "New Dream" transports the listener within this ivory tower. It is not about stealing from Turkish Classical Music, but bringing it new wealth, of breaking the bindings of its strict rules and allowing the music to breathe again with new life. The rich textures and sumptuous string melodies again become the height of luxury, as they were in the Ottoman Court when it ruled half the world. Resembling nothing so much as a rich Turkish dessert drizzled in sugar syrup at the end of a fine meal with friends, or silk sheets and a four-poster bed with a lover, "New Dream" is a rare sensual treat.
This album is produced by the Tunisian born French musician, sound engineer and producer Smadj, highly respected for his knowledge of oriental music and for his digital innovations. With his latest project "New Dream" Burhan Öçal brings new wealth to Turkish classical music by breaking the bindings of its constricting rules and allowing the music to breathe again with new life.
Burhan Öçal performed and recorded with internationally acclaimed musicians including Joe Zawinul, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Paco de Lucia, Natacha Atlas, Kronos Quartet, Eliot Fisk, Sting, Maria, Seamus Blake Quartet, Joao Pires and George Gruntz. Winner of the German Record Critics Award twice and the Prix Choc, Öçal toured extensively and appeared in prestigious world festivals including [Festival International de Jazz de Montreal] to an audience of more than 150.000.
Musicians:
Burhan Öçal (percussion, piano)
Volkan Gümüşlü (composer for this track, violine solo)
