  • Well so far so good, the second match was yesterday. 40000 tickets sold, all sold out again..

Although it was Kaizer Chiefs playing :P

  • This stadium is such a waste. I mean what idiot decides to build a 70,000 seater stadium 100m from a 52,000 seater stadium. Wouldn't it be smarter to extend the existing Kings Park stadium at a fraction of the cost?

This new stadium is pretty, but after the world cup it will never again be full to capacity. I mean look how empty it is in this clip - and this was a special event! What a waste!!

  • This was the first match to test the stadium... The only sold 22000 tickets, and all were sold out..

  • @mandela195 Durban is planning to host the 2020 Olympics is it? Has Durban decreed that, or is there still the matter of a bidding process?!!

As for your football matches - pray tell what is the average attendance of any of the local teams? And what does the average ticket cost? If you do that maths you'll understand why they're begging the Sharks to move to the Moses Mahibihibi Stadium. Why don't you do some of that research yourself!

  • @mjribes your wrong about that cause my city (Durban) is planning on host the 2020 Olympics and its made so that it can fit a track..in addition many Football games will be played there..So before jumping to a conclusion do your research.

  • @Pagra101 No arguements there - I agree totally. I have an issue with stadium in particular. It is 100m away from a 52,000 seater. Check google maps - it is actually across the road! The old stadium is home to the Sharks - a rugby team that has an average attendance of 30,000. But the government wanted a new soccer stadium. But the problem is that Durban doesn't have any decent soccer teams!! Bottom line - waste of money!

  • @mjribes the world cup would never have been given to your country if you only upgraded existing stadiums.

You need world class stadiums to host a world class event.

However even Huddersfield Town, a league 1 team, will get a better attendance than these teams!

  • Check out a 360 degree panoramic PHOTO Virtual Tour of this stadium at 360southafrica [dot] com. :)

  • the seats are too far out from the pitch

  • It looks better from outside.

  • This is lyk berlin stadiuim on steroids!!!

  • dude u sooo ryt!!! never thot of it that way bt Moses Mabhida has a greater feid area so it can be used as an Athletics staduim. atleast Durban has a worldclass Olympic stadium now.
