www.TheNerdshow.com jumps the gun and reviews the free Fedora 12 Linux Live (bootable) CD operating system while it is still in alpha development! It still installs and works beautifully. Then we test a non-free Fedora 12 install to hard drive, with mp3 support, DVD playback, flash player, office applications and games, working around several errors. Now you can do just about everything that Windows can do without all the installation time, viruses and headaches that some windows users complain about. Who says there is no free lunch!
Our unofficial installation notes, fixes:

Disclaimer: This video contains spoiler info that explains how to install things that aren't shipped with Fedora due to incompatibility with the Fedora license terms. To keep your system unencumbered (so you can share it with your friends) you may want NOT to install them! There are free redistributable replacements for flash-player. Try swfdec-mozilla or gnash-plugin and see if they work for you. Missing add-ons include plugins, such as gstreamer-plugins-ugly for .mp3 support, libdvdcss for DVD playback and flash-player for viewing youtube. These plugins aren't officially supported and, depending on where you live, you could even get in trouble for giving them away but that doesn't stop you from downloading or using them on your own!
There was no time left to try out Desktop Effects, but that's easy. It's in the System--Preferences menu.

This how-to was made using the free Fedora operating system. Video editing and subtitles with the free avidemux2-gtk that is available through Add Remove Packages. Test system: Dell OptiPlex GX270, 1024MB RAM, 40GB dard drive. Toward the end of the video we even catch a glimpse of Roger Federer at the U.S. Open v. Novak Djokovic 2009! The clip is covered under fair use as a way to test the newly-installed flash-plugin. Maybe we should try to incorporate that between the legs shot into FreeTennis, eh?
Errata:
We press F2 here, but the key to press to get into the BIOS varies from computer to computer. Check the manufacturer's web site.
/dev/hda could be different on your system. fdisk -l will reveal the names of hard disks on the system.
If there are a bunch of Fedora systems to install, set keepcache=1 in /etc/yum.conf and then after updating burn /var/cache/yum to a CD or use rsync over a network. Copying them to each new machine saves having to download updates every time.

Nice video, however if you would have used a screen capture program within virtualbox is would have been outstanding.

Well, I thought about using virtualbox or qemu, but I was already installing it on a PC, so figured I might as well tape it, kill 2 birds with one stone. And besides, they need testing on PCs too.

Looks like rmpfusion is currently down, so people thinking of installing this might want to wait a while if they need those packages. Not much we can do about that except wait for it to come back up.
