The allies won because:

(1) They managed to destroy the Soviet Bomber fleet in Northern Russia using a submarine fleet (with a considerable element of luck) - this opened up the Atlantic supply routes to convoys.

(2) German strategic/tactical ingenuity in western europe.

Aside from those two factors, the Soviets pretty much had the USA and its allies by the balls through most of the book. Even then, it took an effective coup-d'etat from within to effect a ceasefire.

Well the Sum of All Fears was an interesting reinterpretation of Tom Clancy's book. It may even have been a passable film without Ben Affleck as the proverbial turd in the punchbowl.

Not bad. Visually pretty good and the music is dramatic and quick paced without being loud and over powering.

miniseries would be cool.. is an awesome book. agrees a 2 or even a 3 hour movie would ruin it
