Dominic Piers Smith, an aerodynamics designer of Brawn GP's World-Championship-winning Formula One race car, plays Rachmaninov for the 2009 Van Cliburn International You Tube Amateur Piano Competition - but was unfortunately disqualified for only being 34 and not 35!
Rachmaninoff was a master at painting emotion with musical tones as his colors. Fantastic playing! I play #6 myself, one day I'll learn #7.

Dominic, I loved this. Gorgeous sound, velvet throughout. In nr 6, such a slow tempo, going for it courageously placidly, but able to keep the legato, density of the line throughout. same for #7, heavenly colour, intoxicating depth of sound and legato. It's maybe the aerodinamics chip in your brain - or rather, fluid dinamics here. All my admiration.
I'm guessing from this, you might like my own piano compositions, posted here and in my website fabiocosta.info
Very glad to learn about you!

What one means is (it is logical to me) even though it says piano it can be piano in relation to the next part which says mf
as sforzando after piano is not the maximum forte (sforzando)

For the first piece just wondering if it is the piano that makes a melody be heard less--yet that was an awesome performance.

Dear clsmsclvr: As English is not my mother tongue, I am sorry for the lack of sensitiveness in advance!
There are very different ways of showing your emotions and - thank God - it s not necessary that we all feel the same at the same time. However, it is essential to recognize and to respect this fact.
In this sense: Dominic, You'll be there in Fort Worth in 2011!
