The full title for this video should be: "Opeth - Demon of the Fall (Guitar Cover of Doom) OR The Difficulty of Switching Presets by Foot While Sitting on the Ground." Why? Because I make a mistake every single time I try to change presets. This song definitely lacks the accuracy and glory and honor and power of the April Ethereal video I uploaded a week ago.

I was messing around with one of my band's songs when I was reminded of how cool Opeth's song, "Demon of the Fall" off their 1998 album, "My Arms, Your Hearse" is. I thought I might as well record a cover of it, but the preset footswitching while sitting down proved a challenge.

In this video, I recorded direct with my baritone seven-string, the Ibanez RG7EXFX2, and with my Axe-FX Ultra. I used the RG7EXFX2 because Demon of the Fall is in drop D (the RG7EXFX2 was tuned to ADADGBE). There are a ton of different presets used, but they were mainly the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier (RECTO NEW), Fender Twin Reverb (DOUBLE VERB), and the Diezel VH4 (DAS METALL).

It might seem weird to use EMG707s in an Opeth cover--the DiMarzio PAF7s in my RG8527 might seem more appropriate--but actually the EMGs do pretty damn nicely if I do say so myself, especially on the clean part at the very end of the song.

This description has gotten really long, but lastly... If you like Opeth (or progressive death metal), check this "Opeth-esque" song out:

That's the best compliment I could have received. My volume is almost 3x as loud as the original.

  • Try playing to a backing track. I can barely hear you, if at all.

No prob. Keep up the awesomeness.

  • @Nyarlathotepiscool well thats what i figured out in the end...the strumming parts are easy i find the intro sliding riff hard...well not gone till the clean part...:/ thanks for the help mate...

  • @devildragonsignifica

Just look at my fingers and ignore the bottom string (since I'm using a seven-string and Opeth uses six-strings). The camera is on my hands the whole time. Shouldn't be too tough to figure out. Also keep in mind that Mikael and Peter play very different things through much of this song and what I am playing is a mixture of Mikael's parts and of Peter's parts.

  • @Nyarlathotepiscool ya on how to play this song... :/ ...so hard...many ppl might be looking forward too...you noe what i mean rite...

  • @devildragonsignifica
