Joints, muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments depend on a family of molecules known as collagens for their strength. Most repetitive stress injuries occur from "overdoing it," which at the molecular level translates to pushing our collagen molecules past their breaking point. Collagen can repair, but dietary factors play a huge role.

  • Hilarious and informative!

  • You are right, dancingdude07, its about connective tissue (CT). If taking off your shoes helps, great. But it might make things worse--it did for me when Zola Budd inspired the previous wave of barefoot running. My CT just wasn't up to it, and that's genetic. Most CT genetics are determined by what your parents and grandparents ate and what you ate before puberty.

  • Then why is it that Americans in thier 40's who couldn't run more than 5-6 miles before running barefoot can run pain/injury free and marathins/ultras after swifting to the barefoot style? and doesn't it make sense that they would have stronger conective tissue if they use it. If we don't use it like they do then they will obviously have stronger tissue. but if we switch from modern running shoes to barefoot style and build the tissue we too can develope them. right?

  • I think she's right. I've read her book, and it's brilliant.

  • You are awesome Marc Silberman.

  • Collagen is sorta complicated!

  • Eye opening.

  • thank you for your good video, please make more! also, you have two of the same one uploaded!

  • And in addition to better nutrition, they don't drive cars to work and then work by sitting in a chair. Marc Silberman, M.D.
