This wooden clock was designed by Clayton Boyer and made by Philip Brutz. It is made from a teak banister scavenged from the Cleveland Museum of Art's former Asian gallery. The hands are made of rosewood given to me by the late Gerald Smith, master cabinet maker at the Cleveland Museum of Art. This clock was made as a memorial for him.

  • cool...wher to get it???

  • You have to build it yourself. You can can get the plans from Clayton Boyer.

  • how does a clock even work just by a swaying motion

  • I recommend watching the YouTube video “Time, Clocks and Gears” it explains how a mechanical clock works.

  • Can you teach me how to regulate the period of oscillation? By manipulating the weight or the length of the pendulum?

  • The higher the weight (the disk) is on the pendulum the faster the clock runs. There is a threaded rod on bottom of the pendulum that allows me to raise or lower the weight to control the speed of the clock. The rectangular weight hanging on the string is the stored energy that drives the clock. Once a day I have to raise the weight back up to the top and then gravity pulls it back down. This is what drives the clock.
