I used to have this on the PC, then I rediscovered it browsing videos on YouTube. I'm glad I can at least clear level 1 as shown here!

This is one of my favourite games actually. It's an example of how Disney used to make much better games. Particularly I'll note the differences between youug and old Simba make for clever gameplay. It's downsides are it's pretty hard and has an eerie screen when you lose lives, but that's overshadowed by fun/clever gameplay, great music and smooth graphics.

If only it could be on the Virtual Console...

A few extra points for anyone interested:

1) The abilities between cub and adult Simba differ. Adult Simba is stronger and has more ways of attacking. He's also faster (even if he doesn't seem it XP) and can stand more hits, but he loses his jump and roll attacks.

2) If you are injured you lose your roar power temporarily, watch the left bar in this video to see what I mean.

3) There are 3 difficulty levels:
EASY - Simba starts with 9 lives (nice XD) and 3 (I think) continues. Until you lose a life you can't collect any more. Bosses are also significantly weaker than usual.
NORMAL - The difficulty shown in this video. Simba starts with 3 lives (includes the 'zero life!') and one continue, and bosses are at regular strength. Continues are shown as small sun icons, but you have to go out of your way to get them. Try not to waste a continue reaching them!
HARD - I'd love to see someone clear this one. Pretty much matches the hardships of the film really! Simba has no continues and a single life. Make sure you find some ASAP because bosses can take more hits too.

4) Complete a stage without losing a single life to play a bonus game with Timon and Pumbaa including catching falling bugs and collecting them in a quick platformer. Doing well earns you extra lives and sometimes even continues!

5) Did you know the team behind this game also made The Jungle Book and Aladdin? They also made Dino Crisis 1 and 2, and a PC port of Resident Evil.

  • @salozmen29 The music from the GBA was the same as the music from the Genesis. SNES realized that and wanted to make the music a lot more accurate to the music from the actual movie.

  • this is when capcom made amazing single player games. Now crapcom is GREEDY and heartless
