Earmarks are 1/10 of 1% of the national budget. A Representative's job is to get money for his district. Now that all of these fearful dumb asses are swearing off earmarks, they are phoning earmarks in i.e. calling someone & saying if you don't get me 1 million for our states schools, I won't suppport you. Earmarks are nothing compared to our wasted war mongering expense. Beck is a dumb ass as usual. Yes, Glenn, we are that stupid but not as dumb as you. Go cry...

@Alidor76 This is my understanding: There are certain bills that can be called earmarked expenditures for a number of reasons. However, for these earmarked bills to pass the House there has to be some sort of incentive for Reps to vote for it. "Pork" gets added to the bill to buy votes for the big project. The problem is that sometimes so much pork gets added to ensure it passes that the pork that was inserted to buy votes cost more than the original project. That's my understanding.

@buckmastr123 I have done quite a bit of research as to the earmarks function and have come to realize that you're correct in your post. It is indeed a systemic problem. I even venture to say that in some cases are valid, but like anything, it's subject to abuse and frequently is. My new question is "Is there a difference between earmark and pork barrel projects?"

@Alidor76 I don't like earmarks either, at all! HOWEVER, what most people don't understand is that if you don't put them in, it is not going to save ANY money! In the current system, if your Rep doesn't put earmarks in, that money just goes to someone else to be spent (Exec Branch). Pay off debt? I really wish they would but it's more like fund another bomb to send to overseas. Change policy and you can get rid of them for the better. Not supporting them in the current system is idiotic.

@buckmastr123 That's exactly the point. Remove earmarks and use that money to pay off debt, OR, lower the taxes because you do not need that money anymore. Give back the money taken from Americans.
The little rodent pissant glen beck is leaving out facts. The earmarks that he is blaming the dems for was approved by republicans way before the 08 election. The dems did not insert any pork in the budget.

And you're not leaving out facts, eh? Spoken like a true liberal hypocrite. You know *nothing* about Glenn Beck and what he stands for and you've proven that quite well here. Thanks for showering us with your ignorance.
