The opening moments of KATU Channel 2 News from 1993. The top story is the spring break quake, which happened in April of 1993.

KATU 2 is the sister station to Seattle's KOMO TV 4.

Anchor Jeff Gianola is now at KOIN, and Julie Emry has left the broadcast business.

  • KATU's font also seemed pretty simular to WBZ, WJZ, KDKA & KPIX's graphics at the same time.

  • The font used for the KATU calls is actually a widely-used font named Futura Bold, as for the font for the word "Spirit"? I still haven't been able to find it.

    I also know that the "2" was a customized one based off of their original "2" which they'd used for close to twenty years.

  • This quake occured March 25th 1993. It woke me up @ 5:34am. I was in Oregon City.

  • @dgendvil The graphics typeface used here is Univers.

  • The current "2" is NOT the old "2" by a long shot. There's clear differences between the two, namely uniform stroke width.

    As for the best graphics? I have to say the graphics package here would top my list.
