  • where were you guys coming from? because ive been campin at algonac state park for years and rarely see a 1000 footer go downbond

  • Nanticoke, Ontario It is common to see footers travel the entire St Clair River. 1) They bring ore to Zug Island 2) They bring coal to Monroe 3) They bring ore to Toledo 4) They load coal in Toledo 5) They bring ore to Cleveland 6) They bring ore to Conneaut 7) They bring ore to Nanticoke 8) They bring coal to Nanticoke You will see footers in other Lake Erie ports. This is mearly a short example to show you how common it is to see a footer downbound.
  • Indeed, you nailed the location. It is kind of tight meeting another vessel here. Small fishing vessels are a major problem as you have described. Many fisherman that wait until the last minuet do not realize that a ship that large can not steer around small fishing vessels and they can not turn out of the way at the last second not to mention that there is very little deep water and most ships have to stay as near to the center of the river as possible.

  • Meeting on SE Bend?

  • cool thx

  • It's strange to see the river from 10 stories up. I'm used to 3 feet or less off the water. Great vid, thanks!

  • I think I recognize where this is at. Where the Basset forms. Harsens Island to the port, Squirrel Island to the starboard. Same spot my dad and I were fishing and the James R. Barker rounded this bend. We couldn't get the engine started. Of course, we're drifting downstream toward the ship. Barker gave us the 5 short blasts. I nearly jumped for it, but thankfully the engine finally started. It was close!

Thanks for the great vid. Good to see Harsens Island again.
