you should make one of these compressors into an air powered engine using some solinoids to time it

well, I do get a lot that have suffered motor burn out, the one in the video was suffering a current leak to ground. but a lot of failures have been because of shoddy installation, loss of oil, contamination etc..
I did have a 3 cyl model that threw a rod and jammed but that was because of oil loss
Apart from th one in this video, which was in perfect working order,, the Australian made Kirby copies of the Tecumseh compressors rarely fail, I've never had another one after the one in the vid

man those are some nice solid hunks of machinery! I found an old compressor out in the woods back in '01 and spent 3 days cutting it open with a hacksaw man what a job trhat was! it was seized, but I got it to work!

they are tough!, its mainly lack of oil, or liquid in the cylinders that kills them!
I can well imagine using a hacksaw to cut one open!, a 4" grinder is hard enough!

yeah1 I've seen some nice ones but the prices are crazy. a reciprocating comp the size of the electrolux would be perfect.
Avoid rotary or scroll compressors for compressing air, they rely on cold refrigerant gas to cool them a lot more than reciprocating ones, plus theirs the problem of dieseling if oil vapor mixes with the air when its running hot.
