Bob Nolan once described this song written by Marty as 'one of the great nature songs.' Praise indeed for Marty from the guy who wrote 'Cool Water' and 'Tumbling Tumbleweeds.' Bob recorded a version of the song and had Marty duet with him on it. Marty must have been thrilled as you can see (and hear) how much the Sons Of The Pioneers meant to him.

Thanks for all your comments granny. I think you have responded to my postings more than anyone else and I truly thank you for it. Marty's talent still truly amazes me after all these years. I hope you are well. As for me, I'm OK, but I miss my late wife very much still.

  • @Tarquin greetings from theCarb,en you are truly wise in stating, in your op.Even though you are an AUT, on Martys music you remain humble Respect to YOU,This is a Great song, but with Marty Robbins there is no such thing as His Greatest song. there are so many, it,s just an Op. MY opinion is the MASTERS CALL. Thanks again.

  • @CJJ51 Thanks CJJ51 for your very kind comment. I agree that 'The Master's Call' is also one of his greatest songs. Marty's great compositions would fill several CD's.

  • Probably Marty's greatest song in my opinion. Even better than 'El Paso' to my way of thinking.

Thanks for you kind comment about the video as well Chartwell.

  • Thanks Marty!

  • My Mother passed away in Oct. She told me to make a movie out of this song. What a wonderful story it tells. I will think of Mom each time I hear this. Thanks Tarquin.

  • This is certainly one of his best but for my money, the most personal was The Performer.

  • my old man had a greatest hits tape going over and over in his car in the eighties. still know all the songs. amazing voice

  • one of my favorites that Martydid

  • Today will just be a fond memory. So many great lines in this song,Marty's best ,and he had a lot of great ones.I've driven several times from Denver to Vegas listening to Marty, and it is even more emotional .Every fan should get the Western box set if they can.

  • A simple, tranquil, beautiful song that never got the attention it deserved. I agree this is one of the best songs Marty ever wrote. I'm only 34 and wish more songs of this style were still written and performed today. This is true easy listening music of the highest calibre...

  • Heard this tune ona Hamilon Texas radio station KCLW about a year ago. It brought tears to my eyes as I thought what man has done to this beautifu learth that God gave us! I was lucky enought o find a vinyl version in good shape about a week after ward.

God bless Marty as he saw the future!

  • Absolutely beautifully written, sung and delivered with these perfect images to go with it. So true and so sad ... Thank you, Marty, Bob, SOP, and tarquin ... I am left speechless ... I agree, more excellent than even El Paso.

  • The most spellbinding voice that will ever be heard. I had the privilege of seeing him in concert. I cherish that memory.

  • Oh look! Picture of my backyard! Nothing like Tucson, Arizona!
