Business Secretary Lord Mandelson has announced (7th January), a £70 million investment in manufacturing, to boost the economy and create new jobs across the country. The announcement was made at The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills in London EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) will launch three new state-of-the-art EPSRC Centres for Innovative Manufacturing, concentrating on three areas of pioneering research: Regenerative Medicine, Liquid Metals and Photonics. The three new centres receiving investment will be based at Southampton, Loughborough and Brunel universities. It follows a strong tradition of EPSRC financial support for manufacturing research, with £120 million provided over the past ten years. EPSRC the largest UK government agency for funding research and training in engineering and the physical sciences says this centres will bring researchers and businesses together to develop new fields of innovation, helping create much needed jobs and boosting Britains ability to remain a global leader in manufacturing.
